Confused

This isn’t about me but about a close friend of mine. 3 days ago he financed a car from Arnold Clark but hasn’t yet bought insurance for it. He did run the risk by driving it home without insurance (stupid i know) and luckily made it.

However, when we checked on askmid.com, it’s coming up as insured and he’s not sure how. Still till this day he hasn’t bought insurance for it and it’s still coming up as insured which is confusing.

Police have driven behind him for more than 5mins and didn’t pull him over so it obviously comes up as insured on their apnr system as well.

How is this happening?


P.S - Dont get all triggered and ask why is he still driving on the roads if he hasn’t bought insurance himself. The car has been parked up on private property since.

You have received a driving ban and your “friend” is driving around uninsured.

The car may be covered on a legacy policy from the previous owner, but your friend is not.

Without jumping to conclusions, I would say your moral compass may be a few degrees out of kilter...

My driving history has absolutely nothing to do with this or his actions. Everyone makes their own decision so don’t try correlate one with the other.

As for the only useful part of your reply, how would one go about to check to be certain?

I’ve asked my brother who works for Arnold Clark and he said they don’t. I thought that as well but turns out i was wrong.

Why on earth would anyone not have insurance in this day and age? Your 'friend' is not the kind of person you should associate with.

No doubt it was stupid but that decision does not determine his purity. He’s that type of friend who would stand behind you regardless. But thanks for your concern on my choice of friends.

What is the reason for no insurance it makes no sense. If he is checking askmid he knows what he is doing and very stupid as the car could be confiscated.

Yes he knows. I’m not asking for a lecture on why he should be insuring the car as we already know the consequences. Either answer the relevant question or move on to the next post.

How could it be under his name though? If the dealer had insured it for him he would’ve received some paperwork.

Why would your "friend" buy a new car, drive it home uninsured and then park it up on private property still uninsured. Is he waiting for his ban to expire as well?
