NIP and time limits

A while back, I think around 25/6 of April a NIP arrived at work requesting driver details for one of the cars. It was me, and I replied giving my details. No argument. I'm guilty.

My question is, do they have another two weeks from receiving this information to send me the NIP to my home address?

What happens if they don't?

The 14 day time limit only applies to the first NIP. After that the limit is 6 months for commencing a prosecution.

I see. So once I have provided my details, they have six months to process the 'new' NIP. Wow!

Did you or your company return the NIP?

The Company. But I am the owner and it was me driving. The NIP came to the company (registered keeper of the car) and I sent it back with my home address and licence details, etc. I would have expected to hear something by now. This was over two weeks ago.

Like I say, happy to take what's coming, but wondered how long they have.

[PEDANT] The NIP doesn't request driver details, it merely informs the registered keeper that a police authority intends to prosecute whoever was driving the vehicle on a specific date, and at a specific time, for committing a road traffic offence.

An S172 requests the relevant details of who was driving the vehicle on the date, and at the time of the offence, from the registered keeper

(The NIP and the S172 are almost always sent out together, in the same envelope, but there is a difference between the two) [/PEDANT]
