96 in a 60!!

I recently got pulled over for speeding (VASCAR) on a country road (A696 to Scotland), it was about 10:00am and a really nice day. I was coasting along when all of a sudden this traffic car pulls out from a field with blue lights flashing, he pulls me over and gives me a NIP. I cant argue against the 96, I was concentrating more on the road than my speed but a local traffic plod advised me to plead guilty by letter and what I really need is some advice about what this letter should contain (I use the car for work alot). I have 3 points on my license from just over 3 years ago and thats all i've ever had.

Can provide me with suitable advice?

What can I expect to receive as a punishment?

I'm quite happy to be shot down in flames by the resident cops but I thought that the police couldn't sit on private land to catch folk? Assuming the field is privately owned?

exactly the same speed as me 12 months ago and i got a 500 quid fine and 6 points. should have been banned as already had 6 but managed to plead and cry and beg etc......

If you have points on your licence that are more than three years old from the date of conviction (not offence), then they are no longer valid and you have effectively a clean licence. They have to stay on the licence for four years before they can be removed.

Was it a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty, or have you received the summons ? ( It makes all the difference ) On a single cariageway, expect £200 - £500 and 4-6 points. If dual carriageway a lot less, perhaps as little as £120 + 3pp.

I just got done or 55 in 30 this morning by a hand held gun. Got a clean licence for 12 years with no points!

What can i expect?

Madcop, I think you might be slightly incorrect there. Points are "valid" for three years from the date of the offence, not the date of conviction.

Mine are about three years old so I recently took an interest in the issue.

Penalty points are valid from the date of the offence unless they are issued by a court as part of a court judgement, in which case the date of conviction is relevent.

Once points have been imposed, they are added to any other points imposed in respect of offences committed within 3 years of the latest offence or offences.
