Cameras on traffic lights - what type are these?

I recently had to go to Carmarthen, Wales on business.

Passed through a T junction where the light was green when I started to go through but, because of the road layout, there is another set of lights on the other side of the junction. So when I passed the first set of lights they were green, but due to the traffic then unexpectedly stopping, by the time we started moving the further set of lights had turned red. No markings on the road and I couldn't just sit there due to the joining road on the left side so had to carry on.

I'm curious what the cameras are on the sets of lights in that area, I don't think any are red light cameras or similar, most look like pedestrian and traffic flow monitoring but am unsure.

So the lights on the left side were green when I went through, traffic stopped for some reason as I was going past the joining road on the left, after a few seconds the lights on the right turned red. A few seconds later and the traffic started moving so I had to go forward, couldn't just sit in the middle of the junction.

As long as your vehicle had passed beyond the stop line before the lights changed, then you did absolutely nothing wrong by proceeding across the junction, even if your lights had gone red before you reached the other side of the junction.

No issue. You have passed the stop line, and there is no box junction.

They're radar for traffic

Probably the case yeah. I've seen on a number of occasions people stop dead in the middle and causing chaos.

They're not cameras, they're sensors to turn the lights red as you approach at 1 am

Exactly (except the red bit )

They're vehicle detection which operate on microwave or infra red to provide inputs to the controller.
