100% VAT evasion which is a criminal offence and carries a potential prison sentence of 7 years.

HMRC may also impose their own fine of up to 100% of the amount evaded.

The original message was to the effect of

"my builder keeps revising his quote upwards, but has said he can save me around £1,500 if I pay him in cash as he will not have to run it through the books so won't charge VAT.

I would like to document this somehow to make sure the builder doesn't renege on the scheme"
