Question to any Police please

There was a RTA just up the road. No one injured. One car off to the road side, the other in the middle of the road(BMW stuck in park) although plenty of space to pass on either side of the road and no debris
I drove passed the car to much disgust by the local mob who had came out to rubberneck. One stood in front of my car and waved his hands etc etc. He moved when i got out and told him politely too
Anywho. When I came back 90 mins later this car is still sat there with a Policeman stood there, so again i get out and ask him if we can get passed, yes, no issue. I did ask him why they don't drag the car off the road. It was pissing coolant and crap all over the place and it was clear the car was a write off, 14 plate 520D, front axle snapped, radiator caved in, all airbags deployed. Modern car apparently, immovable.
The previous shouty guy came running over to tell the police 'ask him why he drove passed' to which i said 'no one cares what you think mate'
Policeman says to me 'get back in your car before i start taking a keen interest in you'. I asked him if that was called for and he replied I can make things difficult under 165 RTA'
Pretty poor if you ask me. Is he being a tosser or is that a fair cop so to speak

I’m not a policeman and obviously didn’t see this accident - so I’m prob wasting your time!
But some people really seem to overact to an accident, could be adrenaline or shock.
A woman at work who is a known drama queen had someone go into the back of her at a roundabout. Ended up being scratch/dent repair to her bumper. Anyway she came into work in a right state.
Saying how disgusting the man had been as he wanted to swap details and leave. Anyway she had refused to move her car until the police arrived to investigate. The police did apparently turn up as a hysterical woman sobbing on the phone was prob looked on favourably.
I think we need a balance, sounds like yours was a bit more serious. But I am seeing more and more minor accidents where people seem to just freeze and wait for marshal law to be declared, rather than just pull off the road.

I initially got out as i was maybe 5 cars back. Went over to see if it was passable. No other route into Godalming and on a bend so pretty sure low speed. I offered to help try and push the car. Big queue forming, other drivers muttering. The woman was more interested in speaking to BMW assist about how she was going to get home. Yes she was probably in shock. But it was safe to get passed and why should we all sit there waiting for a tow. What's it got to do with some bystander 'I'm in charge charlie'. He (bystander) shouted 'entitled arrogance' he got asshole in their too. I suspect he thought it uncaring and insensitive to actually want to cut through the wreckage. No one injured just a spot of bad driving. The BMW blocking the road was the at fault drivers car.Burwood said:

The 'bystander' was probably the BMW driver, annoyed at the fact that everyone else is managing to carry on with their day whilst he has to stand by and watch

The correct answer here is 'The Police Officer said it was okay to drive past'.All you were doing was trying to antagonise the pillock who had done the same to you earlier and causing hassle to the officer, he just wanted you on your way past the accident.

2 police. They should have turned up attached a rope and dragged it off the road then left. Total waste of resources. The car was a total loss for sure.
