Just had a small low speed incident but might be expensive.

Not had contact with another vehicle before so looking for some advice on how to proceed.

Pulled up behind last car of a row of parked cars. Looked like there was a kid trying to get in to the passenger door of the car in front so hung back a few extra feet as they might reverse soon and move away.

After 30 secs or so, they reverse a bit then stop then reverse a bit more and hit the front of my car with their towing hook. I sounded my horn when she reversed the second time. It was an old RAV4.

Lucky I had dash can running and captured it all.

The lady hit my number plate which was hanging off on one side. She Tried to put it back and I asked her not to touch it.

She gave me her name and address and drive off.

I had a better look and the front section (bumper) behind the plate is broken. A new one will be a few £££

So, how to proceed ?

Contact her insurance company ?

Contact my own and leave it all to them and have a no fault claim ?

Another way ?

What suggest PH ?

Thanks for any advice

Contact your insurance. Get a quote. I assume the dash cam can show you were stationary, and the other party reversed.

Yup, stationery for 30 secs but my only concern is to get lumbered with a non fault claim for xxx years.

You can ask her for insurance and claim directly from them. It will still be recorded as a non fault accident but it doesn't usually add much anyway.

Yes I think we all need to firm up and tackle this compo culture with everything on the side of the cyclist (I am one too mind). That motorist who had to pay compo for a woman stepping out into the road, on her phone, is a ridiculous situation. She probably read about it... En garde guys frown

Maybe be pragmatic, if it’s just a broken number plate (or <£200) just fix it yourself - any non-fault loading to your premium is likely to cost you more

The bumper the number plate mounting is attached to is split.

It’s a low production model so will be a few grand.

If it was just s new number plate I wouldn’t have given it a second thought.

Hopefully they are correct. Did you get her insurance details and a contact number.

The lady who ran into the back of me gave me her mobile which I rang to make sure it was a valid number, you never know nowadays. Thankfully it was.

Her reg is on dash cam as is she.

I got her phone and address but won’t know if it’s genuine until I call or insurance calls.

Good luck.

She will probably get a shock when she finds out how much a "number plate" costs on an Exige smile

I have a non-fault claim from 2015 that was a £10,500 bill. It added £3 to my quote this year.

Yes, just pass on her details/reg to your insurance company and let them sort it out.

My premium didn't go up either from a similar non-fault claim, although I wasn't in the car when someone drove into it - the dashcam evidence was sufficient to avoid any dispute, yours will be the same.

You say you haven't had to deal with this before? The insurance company might be keen to pick up your car and take it away for assessment - don't let this happen, they are quite capable of sending someone out to examine the car at your house/work/wherever if necessary.

I took mine to the bodyshop of my choice and they submitted a quote which was just accepted straight away. For a minor (but very annoying!) bump like this it's pretty straightforward when hire cars aren't necessary.

Good luck.

I had someone reverse into me as I was stationary, they told the insurance we were both moving. I got nowhere and had to suck it up. Dashcam = bang to rights with these cases.

Thanks all.

Reported this morning to insurers. 92 min call inc conference call with DVLA to confirm my driving licence details.

The insurers (Admiral) have no passed it on as a no fault claim to their management company called Auxillis. They Have nominated my nearest BMW approved repairer which is Balgores Faringdon in Romford Essex. I’m In Dorking Surrey.

Looks like nearly no damage but behind the number plate, the front bumper (huge single moulding) is broken.

This is looking from ground up behind the number plate.

Don't be so keen to take it to their chosen repairer - I'd just tell them that you're taking it to your local BMW garage to get sorted.....(Cooper Tonbridge Wells) were great for me back in the day

Absolutely this - take it the body shop of your choice, don't let anyone take the car for inspection.

I was going to warn you about the standard tactic of putting you in touch with their partner AMC, I'd avoid this at all costs - just not necessary. You can still cancel this process now if you call back soon and decline their services.

Admiral will still deal with the claim against the third party for you.

Honestly OP, i'd cancel the claim with your own insurer/their AMC immediately.

Contact the 3rd parties insurer direct. If they have admitted to it being their fault they will get it repaired for you, on your terms.
