Importing vehicle into UK

I'm considering purchasing a Citreon HY van from France which doesn't have a carte grise.

I do not intend on using this vehicle on roads, only in the garden as a bar! It will obviously be towed around on a trailer at any point it needs transporting.

Do I need to import the vehicle through the normal means, or can I just bring it in on a trailer and that's it?

Does the DVLA ever need to know anything about it?

Just bring it and use as you suggest.

This will only change if you use on public highway when normal vehicle requirements will need to be met.
