Insurance claim: How long is too long?

I had a crash back in January of this year, the accident was recorded clearly on my dashcam and it seemed like a fairly straightforward one in terms of fault (see: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... for details).

I handed over my footage to my insurer the next day, gave them a statement etc. Fast forward 6 months and as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing has happened. I spoke to my insurer a month ago and at that point they were apparently just waiting for a response from a 14 day 'final request' letter they had sent to his insurer requesting further details from the other party. Those 14 days are about 30 now. I've been going round in circles since then and I'm no clearer as to what is going in.

In the meantime my insurance renewal has come through, I now have a 'partial fault accident' on what was a 20 year unblemished record and a 50% premium increase for good measure. I've spoken to my insurer about this and they've assured me that the case has not been closed as a partial fault accident, but as investigations are ongoing that's been reflected in the quote.

I had an accident October 2009 and it didn't go court until Jan 2013. It really sucks but all you can do is keep pushing.
