Respray from insurance, looks bad years later

Hi

Pretty sure I have no chance but just wondered

About 8 years ago someone drove into my 350z on a roundabout, it was their fault. Car went off to a crash repair place and had some work done on insurance,, couple of new panels and a spray.

Fast forward to now and the half of the the car that was repaired looks like someone has been over it with a scourer ..whereas the original Nissan paint looks good as new.

Can I go back to insurer or crash repair place?

You could, though I suspect they tell you to jog on unless it came with a 10 year warranty. Maybe they didn't do a very good job, or used inferior materials, but after that length of time how much would you be able to claim back towards a new respray - I suspect diddly squat.

To be fair, I've seen insurers say that repairs are guaranteed for the time you own your car, and plenty of body shops advertise guarantees.

Worth asking.

They might try to correct it for minimal outlay or offer discounted repairs.

Yep lots of body shops offer lifetime warranties on insurance Jobs, sometimes only on parts but on paint a lot of the time too. Call them and ask them if they offer warranties before saying you want to claim.

The old man shunted an SL55 and years later the boot started leaking. No argument, they actually completely reworked the repair as they’d misaligned the rear quarter.

The guarantee was for as long as you owned the car. Worth checking the paperwork

This is usually what happens when you use the insurance approved repairer. They choose the garage based on the lowest bid thus resulting in poor quality. Not all mind.

I always use my own choice of body shop. Yes you have to fork up the excess initially but you get this back eventually.

Having for years put up with an Audi front wing and door becoming a worse paint match to the rest of the car, that wing is now well rotting at the top of the wheel arch, only 12 years after the (no-fault) repair, while the 20 year old OE wing on the other side has just started to bubble.

I am surely due two new wings and a complete re-spray?

Or even a replacement car? They don't last for ever, you know!

Just get it mopped - half a day with a decent paint correction place and the whole car will look great again

Plenty of good bodyshop, especially main dealers, give lifetime of ownership warranty on repairs, they work on the theory that 99% of people will have moved the vehicle on long before any deterioration of the repair occurs. It's better than the manufacturer's warranty!

And what does the small print in those warranties say about annual inspections having to be carried out every year by the bodyshop/main dealer, in order to keep the lifetime of ownership warranty on repairs valid?

Funny I have the same. Owned my E36 21 years.

About 15 years ago I had to claim for damage to front wing and door.

Resprayed by local BMW independent who looked after the car for years.

In the past year that wing and door have lost their laquer and is sun bleached whilst the rest of the car looks as good as new.

Independent closed its doors about 3 years ago.
