Speeding on a motorbike and camera vans

I have been sent a NOIP for doing 74 in a 60 on my motorbike. I saw the van with the guy and his camera out of the back but obviously I have no front number plate. Is it correct that they get my speed and then take a note of my number plate once I have passed them or is it something completely different?

They have cameras back and front for this reason.

They do not need 2 cameras, the operator is also a witness and will simply state, in court if necessary, that the vehicle in the video is vrm xxxyyxxx, bearing in mind that they will have much better quality images to refer back to than the ones you receive. Trying to challenge this generally won’t end well

Without a forward facing camera, how does the witness know the VRM? Do they rush to the front of the van as a bike passes and write it down in a notebook?

Yes that’s about the size of it. Not really a rush, can get a speed reading a 1000ft away

Mk I eyeball. It really is that simple. Speeding vehicle detected, no front VRM visible, operator looks out of van, notes down VRM from rear of speeding vehicle as it passes camera van.

Or, as above. Some camera vans now have front and/or side facing cameras, for instances such as this.

Why would you knowingly speed past a camera van, irrespective of how if oranr your were of the capability?

Not sure exceeding by 40% and speeding past camera vans you've clearly seen is a great combination.

What he said. My wife got done on her bike the same way, we knew she was in the wrong, but were curious so we asked for the photos and got sent two back, one of the front and one of the rear with the number plate on it.

No you didn't assume you have never understood that the two lanes doesn't equal multi lane 70mph.

Speed limits are pretty fundemental rules of the road and it's not as if they are complicated.

Nice compassion from Surveyor above, like he don’t speed. People comment on here for advise not to be criticised. Who cares what he thought the speed was he’s not asking that.

I got done doing 75 in a 60 a few years back and got a speed awareness course. Previously had a clean licence. I know that was the cut off back then.

I also have mistakenly thought a 60 limit was a 70 on a bike in an unknown area it’s easily done on certain roads.

I have just been to court doing 124 in a 60 on my R1. Represented myself and put forward my mitigation and got a 14 day ban and £680 fine.

Just accept it, they will have a statement or pictures otherwise you would of not got the NIP. The statement is enough.

Pretty much that.

74mph in a 60mph is within the threshold for a Speed Awareness Course. If one is offered and you opt to take it, it's a few hours of your time, a fee comparable with the Fixed Penalty and zero points.

Depending upon your insurer, you may or may not have to declare a course attendance at renewal.

Clean licence but have been on a speed awareness course about 2 years so no luck this time.
