Just taxed a vehicle with no insurance/mot

I thought the DVLA checked the status but I just renewed my Tax , to be fair it’s MOT exempt so that checks out , but no insurance? Its not on insurance database and I thought they checked this . I will insure it tomorrow as it’s going back on the road but it seemed weird

You haven't needed insurance for a few years since the continuous tax and insurance laws came in I believe.

Correct. DVLA will not do anything immediately but if you still have a car taxed with no insurance once the new owner details are finalised, you can expect a letter in a few weeks reminding you of your obligations.

One of the reasons is that you are supposed to 'immediately' tax a car as a new owner but if you have only just insured it, it may take a while for the MID to be updated to include that car. The MoT database is updated within minutes of a car passing a test(controlled by DVSA).
