Pulled with no insurance

Evening all
So Sunday I was stopped by northants police on my way to Ford fair because my car came back as uninsured
I genuinely thought it was a joke as I have a trade policy and I knew the car was covered and has been for months
After logging in to my policy it transpires that the numbers are the wrong way around so G123 instead of G132 for example
Now this is weird as the car is taxed on a monthly DD basis so how is this possible as surely you can't tax a car without the correct insurance
The incorrect reg on my insurance doesn't relate to any other vehicle on the road
Today I received a £300 fine and 6 points or the chance to go to court
Is it worth my while trying to plea my case and show the judge what has happened or am I wasting my time
I've had a clean licence for 25 years so I'm gutted tbh
Any advice would be welcomed

You haven't needed proof of insurance to tax a car for years.

Surprised you haven't been fined by the DVLA for having a taxed car that isn't insured.

Talk to the insurance company.

They may provide a statement that they consider it to have been covered, as there should be no difference in the value of the premium?

Agreed. If they are willing to say you would have been covered then you might be fine. It sounds like purely an admin error so hopefully they will agree.

You are not the first person to do this, and you won't be the last.

I had the same issue with my insurance, got pulled over and after a call to my insurance company the police let me on my way and the insurance company sent me out an amended policy.

no points, no fine , no court hearing.

Ask the insurance for a letter of indemnity that shows they would have covered you, then take that to court.

It's possible the insurers transcribed what you said wrong so if they don't play ball and issue and indemnity certificate then ask for a copy of the recording.

A bit useless now, but my tip is to check Askmid a couple of days/a week after you've insured it, it only takes 20 seconds.

Especially having watched re-runs of Police Interceptors on Dave.

An administrative error doesn't mean you weren't insured if the insurance company says that you were in fact covered despite it.
The Police aren't privy to that, they've only seen that as yet you haven't produced evidence of cover as required.
Satisfactory statement from Insurance company should see it covered.

The poster has a trade policy so it's likely be updated the MID himself.

Providing the vehicle was under your control within the terms of your trade policy you are insured so you will be ok.

Your certificate of insurance should be evidence enough of that .

Traders insurance - was he using it correctly? Is it a car from stock? Should he be using it privately?

Police - much more to have a go at them about. Why didn’t they seize it? If they figured it was insured, then why punish him? How have they managed to get the fine and points to him so quickly? If he could log on at the roadside, why wouldn’t they just accept it was an admin error and he could fix it there and then?

Road tax - maybe have a go about the “new” system. Plenty of time to rant about all the extra revenue from double taxing in the first month.

Bad advice. You don’t want an ‘IN’ offence code on your licence if you can help it- not unless you want massively more expensive insurance premiums
