V5 following death

Apologies if in the wrong place, wasn't sure where to post this.
My mum recently died and dealing with the estate my sister was adamant there was no V5, so I duly applied for one, wrote out my £25 cheque and sent it off to the DVLA special support dept (or whatever the name is).
Website says theyll stop the current road tax immediately and then issue another V5.
Of course 3 weeks later the cheque hadn't been cashed, my mum's tax is still valid according to the online checker, and of course I found the original BY after looking for 5 minutes.
So where do I stand now? Any clues, there isn't a number or email to call that I can find, and we'd like to get rid of the car.
(Before anyone asks, yep I've checked and as a named driver I am insured to continue driving)
