Proof of no claims - says policy cancelled

I've just changed my car insurance - have requested proof of no claims and the email sent says "confirm that your insurance policy was cancelled on ... and at that time of cancellation you were entitled to a No Claims Discount of 9 years"

I thought cancelled had a very specific meaning with respect to car insurance, my policy expired not cancelled surely? Is it going to raise alarm bells anywhere?

There is a difference between you having a policy cancelled by the insurer, and cancelling the policy yourself.

Cancelled will just mean you have not take up the option to auto-renew.

Seems like a strange word to use if they're just not auto-renewing. No insurer has ever mentioned cancelled to me before and I rarely use the same insurer for more than one year.

Yes that's what I thought, I looked back through some previous insurers emails and they say 'your policy ended on...' even when I cancelled a policy before it started.

Nothing to worry about its saying your no longer with them not you've had insurance cancelled
