I'm stuck in a jam on the M6. Two lorries have collided and 32,000 litres of gin is spread across the road. I've been stationary for 4 hours.
Technically I'm breaking the law by writing this on my phone. There's a policeman not far away. Would he be likely to prosecute me?

holding you phone in your hand, crime and according to a lot of people on here, 6 points isn't nearly enough for such a heinous crime where you could potentially cause someone behind you to end up delayed by 4 hours and 1 minute instead of just 4 hours if the traffic meraculously evaporated ahead of you.
But put the phone in a mount, tap away, even if the message takes you twice as long to write because its to damn fiddly, and you make someone 4 hours and 2 minutes late that's fine because what you are doing does not fall within an arbitrary definition outlined by someone who's probably never driven a car or used a phone let alone done the 2 together.

is that correct? I use a cradle and I'm inclined to change podcast or check sat nav maps while at traffic lights and it has occurred to me the risk of fine I face from the callous risk of serious accident I could cause in my stationary vehicle..

Ring Highways England and ask if they have any Tonic for the situation at present?

Wife has just rung me from Kuntsford, was trying to be sneaky and come off at J18 and then cross country but the back roads are gridlocks also. Told her she'll just have to Gin and Bear it! (Bear = reference to Congelton Bear brewery)....
