Got a great present for Xmas , a lotus Exige driving experience, I wanted to leave it to the summer to do as driving on a wet winter track is not ideal. Tried to book in June , it’s was full as was July , they do 1 day a month , August they didn’t do one, now September is booked as is October ! When the voucher was paid for it was for afternoon , now all that’s left is November at 8am , it’s 120miles from my house , so morning is either take a cheaper experience (no refund) and pay for a B&B . The owner said the dates for next year come out soon, right inbtween when the voucher runs out and November, but if they don’t its tough ! It’s wasnt cheap and I think it’s a bit of a con . I’d rather have a refund now and spend it with Porsche! I have a voucher with only one morning from now till expiration date . Bit of a rant but does this seem fair ?

Sorry don't see the problem, you are the one who has limited its use.

How so ? From June to December I have one day I am allowed to use it. I’d say that’s pretty limited choice.
June fully booked
July full (I looked in July)
August (not being run)
September (full)
October (full)
Nov (am only)
How the fk am I meant to use it ?

Couldn't you have phoned them in January for an April, May, June, July, August, September date?

Probably this bit:

"I wanted to leave it to the summer"

I see, so a year long voucher becomes a worthless piece of st after 5 months .
Should have booked it before I guess

Would this be somewhere near the Hertfordshire borders by any chance?

Yes with hindsight that would have made sense ,
They had no dates at all when I first looked . I didn’t think booking in June would be an issue ,
I notice on their website you now can’t book any Elise experience as all full but you can buy a voucher ! So that will be as useful as mine

Was there anything stopping you booking a June date in January?

Don’t think the dates where out in January, I’m sure I could have booked in February but I don’t realise it was only 11 days a year they run in , and when you buy vouchers around Xmas there are no indications at all this is the case.
Look on their site now, you can book nothing but they still sell vouchers .
Someone buying a gift would not pick a date and have no clue this was the case

What you’ve experienced isn’t unheard of.

I was bought some similar thing years ago and had similar issues. In the end I went at some inconvenient time and in any case the two (yes only two) vehicles we were meant to be sharing amongst about 10, both broke down.

We were given replacement vouchers.

Mine went in the bin.

Bordering on fraud IMO.

This is why I hate vouchers , the second they have your money it’s in their interest to do everything in their power to stop you using them. Should be a full refund if not used as you receive nothing, I personally never buy them.
I think I can get a November afternoon slot so I will book that , but overall not impressed with Lotus , Porsche on the other hand where excellent

Or perhaps, you're not the only one who gets bought a voucher for Christmas and therefore has to compete with other husbands given the "can't be fked" treatment from the wife. Somehow Lotus don't have tens of thousands of cars on every street corner, and if you waste months waiting to book, perhaps you'll be looking at the back end of the queue?

It's like someone who gets a seat at the back of a plane and moans because they're not the first off because the door is at the front.

Took me about 30,000 miles to get a toaster with Esso tiger tokens back in the early 90s. True story.

Next time, tell your friends/relations not to buy you vouchers.

It's their fault, not the fault of the track that you live 130 miles away.

A very realistic Lotus driving experience then.

I don't think it's anything like that?

Many places will let you "extend" the vouchers validity - at significant further cost of course! I think this is a bit sharp as its not like the experience provider loses out by sitting on un earned cash for a bit! As someone whose very busy and quite disorganised I bet the providers must skim a tasty rake in un used vouchers.

Personally I think that if buying someone this kind of "experience" as a gift one should just keep your cash, knock up a card detailing whats being offered then make the actual purchase when the recipient is ready, but unfortunately social decorum says otherwise.
