Timing of private plate to 'normal' plate

I've posted this question in another thread that i started but I think the question has got lost.

I am using a car resgistered to someone else (insured legit) due to him wanting to keep the registration to transfer his private plate to retention before transferring the car to me.

I've been told that the private plate was transferred to retention today, and I have details of the 'new' registration of the car. The issue is that the private registration plates are still on the car and I can't change the plates as I'm not the registered keeper (waiting on the updated logbook). The registered keeper has ordered plates but they will take a couple of days to arrive.

What do i do in the meantime? Can I legitimately still drive the car, given that all efforts are being made to transfer the plate as soon as possible (i.e as soon as the plates are delivered)?

Or am i deprived of the use of the car until I have the plates to change over?

If it's only going to be a couple of days you may not have an issue.
I guess it depends on how risk averse you are.
Bear in mind that if the car is tugged you'll be the one talking to a cop.
