How annoying.

Wife stopped in traffic waiting at traffic lights. Lights turn green. Car in front nicely rolls back and bumps into front of wifes car. Old boy gets out, wanders to back of car, sees his car merged into wives car, runs back into his car, and drives off.

All caught on dashcam.

Minor scrapeage to front bumper of wifes car, but it did pop the bumper out from under the headlamp and the headlamp now searches for Captain Spok and a few plastic clips were broke.

Here is the rub.

On the soddin last day of lease 6hrs before pickup.

Almost simultaneously, 6 hours later right on time, new car was delivered and collection driver turns up to collect old car (showed dashcam footage and got a copy to prove it before car removed).

And even worse, insurance was with the lease, so although we've stayed with the same supplier company for the next lease (car, services, reasonable tyres use, insurances all in one monthly) now lease company want us to pay an extra months lease on the car to be repaired, pay an extra months premium insurance, pay the excess, and have added a monthly charge to the next lease for a claim, and then "when everything is sorted with the third party and you've recovered costs off them (*)" you'll be back as you were before they hit you.

(*) the "you" recover costs, was stressed quite strongly by the agent as in their view although we have dashcam footage the agent said "what is to say the other person say you drove into them" sounds a bit alarming like the insurers are just dropping us here.

MID says other vehicle uninsurer on the basic check. Does that sound why our insurer won't help.

And FFS - for a car that has been collected, and replaced by the car for the next 3 year lease, we've had some scrote accident management firm "instructed by the insurers" drop off a hire car whilst we were out for the next 21 days "whilst our - or not our vehicle now- is being repaired).

8 hrs in on phone calls to lease co, third party AMC, hire company and recovery garage and everyone seems to be creating a good impression of 'this none existent damage is expensive'. Neither I nor wife have signed anything and we've asked insurer, AMC and hire co to come and get the spurious extra vehicle. Main problem is lease co, say it takes 3 - 4 days to get updates from all the other parties so we're stuck in their sausage machine as it happened last day of lease - they thought car had been collected to return at end of lease, not collected by insurers AMC!

Direct debit for old lease cancelled.

Are we liable for any of this? (If so. anyone want a spare Citreon Mummy wagon for the next 21 days in South Mancs there is one going spare).

I know we are not allowed to name, but lease company "sells over 200,000 used cars a year and the company's car purchases account for approximately ten percent of total new car sales in the UK".

Can't help too much I'm afraid as not a position I've ever been on or experienced.

One thing though, surely if you are insured, you are insured until the policy lapses whether an accident occurs 6 months before the policy ends or 1 minute? Can't be expected to take out another month worth of cover so they can deal with an accident that occurred whilst you were still under a policy?

You have my sympathy though, sounds like a nightmare of a situation!

I think that you will be leveraging legal assistance if included in the policy, or recovering uninsured losses via a claims firm or your own solicitor. I'm not sure if you're supposed to report to police or not as there was no-one injured, but the old boy did drive off which I believe is an offence.

I'm no expert, but that is what I would expect to be the process.

Logic was, we can't hand car A back until it has been repaired - it wasn't the lease company who took car A away I should have said but the AMC - instructed by the lease company - so car A whose lease finished the day of the accident is to be repaired and delivered back to us to sign off on the AMCs repairs for the lease company to then pick up pick up (be funny if the lease company then fault the AMCs repairs), sometime in the month "extension".

Car B is the new lease, being used.

Car C is a random hoire car abandoned whilst we were not in by the AMC.

My car is car D and feels a bit crowed out on the drive!!!!!!!

I suspect this is actually such a rare event none of the parties remember dealing with and are just letting the "machine work". In a few days, the lease company will probably realise they've already got back the vehicle they insure and they are paying their AMC to repair to give back to us for us not to use to give back to the lease company to then do any end of lease repairs (we did put a panel scratch in quite deep to metal we're expecting to have to pay up for) but I bet no one is talking to each other at the three / four cos involved.

Yep reported to police "civil matter ma'am". Wife stood ground in cop shop and we have crime number.

I'd be tempted to phone the other guys insurers and tell them the hire car was unneeded and reject any costs associated.

From OP, though a mis-smelling "MID says other vehicle uninsured on the basic check. "

The hire car is through the AMC that is through the insurers that our lease company use. We've told lease co, they say paperwork from AMC takes 4 days to get through to them (so how someone in the lease co and insurers managed in less than 6 hours to get the message to a hire company to deliver the car out I'll never know).

All sounds to me like the companies are all making work off each other? I just don't want to pay for anything (apart from the extant, non accident scrath on the returning lease car that I'd been advised was about £150).

Ins co said not to release footage to any third party requests via post, media or internet, sorry.

I've re-run the original footage through a 4 pass pulse, swiped binary data through an Enigma unit and have got a representative simulation though.

Here is a picture of me looking sad at all the time I'm spending on the 'phone trying to sort things out, which I think benefits no-one in our household but runs the bills up for everyone else.......(No I'm not wking a a Banana off, but thanks for PM'ing to the user that did just ask me if I was wking a banana to clear that up - cheered me up - think I might meme that picture for work........)!

The two leases are separate contracts, they cannot change the terms of the second contract without offering you the right to exit without penalties.
They cannot roll over one financial situation into the next

All seems fair enough, to be honest. They can't take the broken car back until it's been fixed so have extended the lease and everything (inc insurance) that goes with it. If you'd arrranged your own insurance you'd have to have covered both vehicles yourself.

The only stupid thing is them delivering you a loan car. Stupid as you don't need it, and if the other car really is uninsured, then they can't recover the cost - I can't believe they wouldn't check that, so the other car likely has insurance.

Tell your wife to leave a bigger space - we were taught that you should be able to see the wheels on the ground of the vehicle in front.

Yep, "Tyres and Tarmac" from the Advanced Driving course she did she quoted.

Unfortunately she had left a decent gap.

In hindsight she wished she'd tried to swerve out the way of the car in front rolling back as no amount of beeping the horn was making the old guy put the brakes back on. Though she thinks she'd have probably mistimed it and then it'd be her driving into the back of the guy in front rolling back.

How does leaving a bigger gap stop the car in front rolling back into you?

Time created for the old duffer to realise he's rolling backwards and put the brakes on?

Unless he selected R instead of D , in which case the bigger gap gives him time to accelerate more.

I assumed the expression "rolled back" in the OP meant not under power with the reverse lights on.

There is a school of thought that you should stop so close that any inpact is minimal!
