Radio while working outside

My neighbour and myself will often work outdoors at a weekend washing cars , gardening etc.. when we do to take away the boredom we will have our car radio on.

We thought it was quiet but another neighbour has complained that it spoils his peace and we should not have them on.

Where do we stand legally. Usually its Radio 2 and its not that loud

I wish my neighbours just played the radio, we get stihl saw's, grinders, log splitters, chainsaws, rally cars, motorbikes and all sorts of other noisy things, I'd politely ignore your neighbour, its just a radio, you can make as much noise (reasonably)as you like throughout the day.

I would say that if he's also working outside, it shouldn't be a problem. If he can hear it inside his house when you're working outside it's a problem.

Good neighbours are worth their weight in printer ink.

During the Ashes match at Headingley, I had TMS on a smart speaker outside whilst I was spending the day doing well overdue gardening stuff.

One of my neighbours chirped over the fence asking if I could turn it up a bit so he could hear it better...

I’ve got a neighbour who works on his classic MGB in the garage at the rear of our houses, always listens to Heart FM, which is abysmal. He’s a nice enough bloke, but he’s got no filter and is generally a loud person.

Today I was working from home, behind good quality closed double-glazed windows, trying to participate in a conference call when all I could hear above him sanding body filler with an electric sander (itself annoying) was the sound of stty Heart FM!

I had to break off my call and go ask him to STFU, which he did do, but I really shouldn’t have had to, if he’s being a good neighbour.

I love music, I just don’t like listening to other people’s, so never subject them to mine and just wish others would reciprocate.

If it's the weekend at a sensible time of day and you aren't taking the piss with the volume, politely tell him to FRO.

How long do you have them on for?

Noise aggro is usually connected with duration.

If I had to listen to someone's car radio on a Sunday for an couple of hours it would be no big deal. All day is another matter. Would get annoying, especially knowing it's not going to end any time soon.

Its not one, its all of them to varying degrees, its not a council estate either it is just normal people getting on with their lives, I don't have a problem with it usually as I also make some noise at times using air tools, fixing motorbikes, doing the gardening etc, as far as I'm concerned you can make as much noise (within reason) as you like through the day but you should consider others in an evening.

I like the idea of 'quiet time' but growing up in suburban Britain in the 80's when everything was pretty much shut on a Sunday was dull.
There's probably a happy medium somewhere in between the two.

Not beingg able to do DIY on a Sunday is great if you want ot get out of it, not so good if you've got a load of stuff to do!

I came to Germany six years ago and, at first, this was a bit of a culture shock. These days I find it refreshing - it gives people good reason to spend quality time with each other and not falling in to the English trap of spending Sunday in a shopping centre or DIY shop. People here are simply organised enough that one doesn't need any retail opportunities. I can still get fresh bread on a Sunday morning, and in emergencies the local garage has wine and beer...

I've had the occasional Sunday party, it's all about communication and due warning. I've never had a problem.

The big irony is that I'm sure these rules originated with the church, but guess who is happy to constantly ring their bells throughout the day...

Just get your other neighbour to turn his radio up louder so you get the benefits without the grief.
