Right Or Wrong?

I have an issue with my next door neighbour regarding this kitchen cooker vent outlet amongst other things.
So
A few years ago he had an extension built which backs directly onto my back garden - before the extension there was a fence but he removed it so there is nothing between his extension wall & my back garden.
His cooker extractor fan vents into my garden & until recently I have largely ignored it even though it annoys the hell out of me.
However the smell became unbearable & it was worse than living next to a chippy or KFC. Due to the smell we now have to keep all our doors & windows closed otherwise the house smells of stale chip fat.
So I decided to tape up the vent with masking tape!!!
My neighbour is now aware of this & has told me to remove the tape, I politely refused because of the smell to which he replied that he didn’t care. He simply wants the tape removed.
So simple question is this - should I leave the vent taped up or should i remove the tape?
Local council/environmental health are not interested so not sure what I should do.

To be fair if he had planning permission then you're screwed
I i was your neighbour i'd be pretty peeved if you taped it up and probably not interested in your tales of woe.
if you'd have approached me first with a 'hi, your new extension is causing me some problems, can we sort it out?' i'd probably have sorted some extension on the vent so it vented further away/pointing at my garden etc.
Cant understand why you would just tape it up without talking it through first? Is there a back story here or are you just one of those weirdo's who gets all worked up and doesn't actually want to talk about it like an adult before resulting to taking your own action?

Something not right here, if he doesn't have planning permission, the local authority will be interested surely, regardless of whether it's visible from the road?!?

You have taken umbrage to the whole siutation but it is just a walllet draining situation and much better to just try and sort it out.
