I’ve been catching up on episodes of the Channel 4 series. Hugely entertaining but I’m sure there’s a great deal of behind the scenes work ‘Top Gear’ style as some of the restoration work seen would take years if carried out as suggested in the programmes.
However, there seem to be quite a lot of scenes apparently shot on public roads that I wonder about...
Is it really possible, for example, to build a car around a rolling chassis and then venture straight onto the road?
I would like to think that all you need is a ‘SORNed’ chassis or motorcycle frame of a particular age and then not only would you not need tax, MoT or type approval, but you would only have to be as ‘roadworthy’ as the law demanded at the time the original vehicle existed. Is this really the case?
