NIP for 93 on M1 - what next?

So I have learnt a painful lesson - got a NIP for 93 on the M1 near Sheffield. Got stuck behind someone who would not move out of the way in the 3rd lane,
- they moved over before the gantry and I booted it past....bet they were laughing! Anyway, West Yorks Police don't care about my excuses.

Lesson learned, didn't realise the cameras operated even when speed restrictions were not in force.

I've seen different views on what I can expect - ranging from 3 points and £100 ffixed penalty up to 4-7 points and a fine of up to 150% of weekly earnings/£2.5k.

Any views on what may transpire from those who have already been in a similar situation?

Looks like the latter, 4-7 points plus something around 100% depends on how it goes for you!

If 93/70 and you have fewer than 9 relevant points then £100 fixed penalty with 3 penalty points endorsed on your licence.

The nonsense you've read on the internet (which is probably incorrect anyway) only applies to you if you don't comply with the conditions of the fixed penalty offer.

I’m surprised people on a motoring website keep getting the fixed penalty and points confused with that other stuff.

As above. I was also zapped at 93/70 but on the M6 and received a SP50, 3 points and £100 fine.

According to Evo magazine "journalists" there is no longer such a thing as a fixed penalty. Apparently, it's all income based fines now. The reality is somewhat different from their extremely poor and misleading article.

Good value for the 3 points at least. Would be a bit gutting to get the same for 79.

Agtlaw’s was a factual and helpful post. When you post incorrect information it’s best to have it called out clearly as wrong so that others don’t get misled.

That you think he’s being a dick says more about you than it does agtlaw imo.

Got 3 points from 2.5 years ago, so this is v useful...phew...I was getting ready to be rinsed for £2.5k/6 points. £100 with 3 points looks like a bargain now.

I looked at the Evo article as well, hence why I asked the question in the first place as I assumed that was the new policy.

I’ve written to the editor of Evo Magazine. Unfortunately, I’m not optimistic that their nonsense article will be edited. In my opinion, it’s so badly written that it needs a complete rewrite. The author should firstly educate himself about the fixed penalty system in this country.

You will find that this is not the only incorrectly written or misleading article/news regarding speeding fines.

Just looked. It was the A46 before the m40 sorry. Bridge camera van coming out of coventry. Seen it a million times previously but just wasn’t thinking and was driving a new car. Lesson learned.

Yes, there are several. All quite similar. A government press release was sent out in April 2017. Presumably written by a PR person of very limited intelligence. Unfortunately, in almost all cases, the press release was simply regurgitated without proper context or comprehension by “journalists” tasked with its publication.
