Got zapped today by a traffic BiB with a handheld camera (he was resting it on the door of his car to steady it), coming down the A130 in Essex.
Didn't get stopped or sees any traffic cars further down the road.

My question is do any of these hand held cameras now have the ability to take photos to be used as evidence, or am I OK as I didn't get stopped?

Obviously I wasn't speeding, not me sir, no way nohow

I got caught with one of those and didn't get pulled over.

However, within 2 weeks a nice £60 fine with 3 bonus points was waiting on my doorstep

Wouldn't be in the layby just after the South woodham turnoff by any chance?

Do you mean the new bit between the A12 and Rayleigh?

Yeah, thats the bit.
I come on at Rettendon and off at the 127. Never seen BiB in that layby before. Ah well.

They are always there, wonder why that may be, wouldn't be because it's a nice new straight well sighted bit of dual carriageway with no junctions that encourages drivers to creep up to 80-90+ with no worries cos it's safe would it?

The BiB were there the first week it opened and nicked hundreds, took them to court en-mass and had multiple sentencings to save money, made the national evening news.

Now that is a waste of resource, they didn't stop any of them, none of them had any accidents so what was the point, no accident history as it's a new road!!!

I understand it, but I don't 'get' it, what purpose does it serve, if someone could explain it to me without spouting crap stats but facts then maybe, just maybe I and the rest of the normal population may 'get' it and not think it's the biggest legal money making scam in the history of human kind.

Dougal, I don't disgree with any of that, although there was a fatal crash just past that point a few weeks ago - guess they would use that as justification.

I think I was borderline for speed so fingers crossed.

Fatal crashes happen at 20mph!

Although I do have sympathy with the drivers family, unless someone ran them off the road or there was a mechanical breakdown, it could only have been their own fault at WHATEVER speed they were traveling.

All I was saying is that having a BiB there with a hairdryer would not have stopped this IMHO.

Sorry Bugslpat, not angry with what you said, just the fact that they are able to justify the use of cameras because there was an accident, I bet if it was a tyre blowout they wouldn't go after the manufacturer.

Yup, I'm with you. I just know that's how it would be justified, and most people/magistrates (i.e. not petrolheads) don't seem able to comprehend the 'appropriate speed doesn't kill' counter argument discussed frequently here.

TBH I'm bloody angry with myself for not noticing the BiB - as I said above, he had a hi-vis jacket and was leaning on a stickered up traffic ST220.

I wasn't even in a desirable car - T reg Fiesta Finesse with the wonderful wheezy 1.3 OHV. Problem is I was pretty much flat out.
