I've recently purchased a commercial van for private use. It'll be my main vehicle and my current insurer wanted an extortionate amount to change vehicle. I've got a much more reasonable quote, just wanted to check that my NCB is transferable mid policy?

I currently have 1 years NCB in use on my current policy which is about 4 months in.

NCB isn't real, it's just sales bks. You'll need to ask the old insurer if they will give you 'proof' of your 4 months' NCB, and the new insurer if they will give you a discount because of it.

I'll give that a go. I'm assuming that at least the one year I do have will still be valid to use even if I don't get the 4 months?

As I said, it's just sales guff. Insurance companies can do what they want regarding NCB. It's not a real thing.

Changing the vehicle on the current policy will keep the policy going for the remaining 8 months and should result in 2 years ncb.

Changing insurer you will be offered the 1 year ncb you have accrued. That is all.

Prob best to switch. The additional discount to a 2nd Year isn't that great.

My issue with switching vehicles was that I'm switching from a car to a van which Hastings won't allow you to do. In the end, I just cancelled the original policy and took my 1 years NCB. Interestingly, when I called up to ask if my proof of NCB had gone through okay, the lady on the phone told me that it's not a big deal and it's only the drivers license number that they really need. Wouldn't even chase you up about the proof of NCB. Weird as I've never been asked for license number before.

Guess it is all marketing after all.

A first world problem annoying me at the moment is the faf of needing to get a bit of paper from one ins. co to another ins. co.

Yet they're perfectly able to see what accidents and claims history I have with the other company.

Worse problems to have though I guess.
