Received NIP 40 in 30 info?

Just got home to find NIP from 19/10 sitting on the mat.
Hold hand up yes I was speeding, notorious stretch near me that used to be 40 mph A road now 30.
Not had any points since back in the 90’s I got 3 points for speeding in mk1 xr2 not bad I suppose.
What am I looking at points/ fine/ will I be offered speed awareness course?

Course if you haven't done one in the last three years. Normally £80 to £120 depending on where you do it. And assuming you aren't in Scotland.

Or fixed penalty ticket. £100 fine and three points.

Driving wife’s car, that is lease car, so possibly that might explain delay?

Yeah. 14 days to the registered keeper (lease company in this case). Then onto you/your wife.

Remember if the NIP is addressed to your wife, she has to reply and name you.

They are very clear about this. The addressee must respond first.

May get speed awareness offered - wait and see I guess.

Last Tuesday I attended the Speed Awareness Course, 65 in 60.

It was actually a good course, and I learnt a few things.
Particularly the difference in stopping distance between speeds.

Makes one think!

Hopefully you'll get the option to do the course!

If you're offered the SAC, you pay for the SAC. No fine, no points.

I think you can only do an SAC every other year... got caught 24 in 20 zone (don't laugh), same camera a month and a half apart, twice Sent off both NIPs, one sent me CoFP, paid and sent off licence, not sure what happens with the second one

It's 3 years if it's the same course. Note that there is a speed awareness which is different from the motorway (speed) awareness one.

Also there is talk of the ability to do more with different areas/providers, but have no verification of that.

Your wife has 28 days, as far as I remember, to respond. If she then sends it back naming you that takes the period from the offence up to almost two months. It has been known to be a reasonable defence to claim that you cannot recall whether you were driving after such a period has elapsed. In law the onus on a driver who is not the registered keeper (ie a driver who has been named by the registered keeper) is not as strict also which also helps this defence.

Of course if it was definitely you then there are many on here who will be outraged if you don't confess and take it like a man. (whatever that means...)

Googling it, for info you are eligible for a speed awareness course if you are:

Not more than 12mph over a 30 limit
Not more than 13mph over a 40 limit
Not more than 14mph over a 50 limit
Not more than 15mph over a 60 limit
Not more than 16mph over a 70 limit

and have not done one in the previous 3 years.

You cannot ask for a course, you have to be offered one, and have to have done the paperwork within the prescribed time limits.

I was caught doing 36 in a 30, possibly close to 10 years ago and I was never offered the course even though it was available at the time.

A friend was offered it doing 35 yet it was the same force for both offences.

Correct. From offence date. NSAC, NSAC20 and NMAC are all available (within a three year period) and some areas operate their own courses.

It sure does. There are ACPO guidelines, not regulations. They are under no obligation to offer you a SAC or a Fixed Penalty - they could just as easily give you a court appearance. Note the converse also applies - you don't have to accept a SAC or a fixed penalty, you can choose a court appearance. However I have yet to hear of anyone who got off lighter (or got off scott free) by choosing the court route. Unless of course your solicitor is Mr Loophole, and you were late for a premiership game you were managing as you were being chased by paparazzi.
What I really don't get in the UK is that every speeding conviction will attract points or a ban (but not both) and a fine. There is no 'fine only' option like most other European countries for minor offences. It seems like BRAKE! come out of the woodwork at every opportunity and contest every suggestion of a change of rules, saying it'll lead to more deaths or serious injuries - so no changes ever happen. I believe this is why the 80 mph motorway limit got canned a few years back too.
