30mph Motorway average speed Slough m4 slip road

Anybody know what the camera on the slip road of junction 7 (westbound) of the m4 as you leave Slough/Burnham is set to?

I was driving today with the kids having an argument in the back of the car, and I didn’t realise until it was too late that the average speed limit on the slip road is 30 not 50! I think I was doing 50mph most of the way. To be honest I am sure this camera has caught many this way.

Will I get a fine do you think? Is doing 50 in a 30 zone on a motorway slip road treated any differently to doing 50 in a 30 zone by a school?

Any motorway slip will be national speed limit for motorways unless clearly signed with a restriction, which will be the same as the main carriageway it joins.

I don't think it is enforced. It is an impossibly short stretch to have an average speed check (less than 1/4 mile)

Yes it was a 30mph restriction which I didn’t notice until half way through the average speed zone (it used to be 50mph). Obviously my bad for not noticing and obviously I should be fined, but just hoping to get 3 rather than 6. Or hoping the camera isn’t live!

Ah thanks HenryHippo. There is a camera but I guessed it was a dummy.

Obviously I’m the dummy for not reading the speed limit but there is no reason IMO for that to be 30mph!

Are those who drive near Slough unduly prone to not paying attention to driving because of shouty kids in the back? Is that a Berkshire thing?

Going by standard of driving between JCTs 6,7 &8 by the locals the whole area should be a 20mph limit.
Trying to drive a truck in the area especially at school run times is not for fient of heart .

I concur. That is an area where a dude with a red flag walking in front of all the white 320Ds would be a great improvement.

Late to the party I know... I previously assumed that the 30mph was temporary and not enforced. Even though the 50mph limit on the main motorway is "temporary" -- insofar as the signs are not permanent despite having been there for years -- I thought the 30mph on the slip road was a temporary part of the temporary restriction.

BUT I noticed yesterday that there is a sign for a speed camera with 30mph written on it -- which suggests the camera is calibrated to 30 on that stretch -- but obviously that doesn't make it true.

Did you get caught in the end? I know it was a couple of years ago now, but if it was enforced then, that means it *definitely* is now.

I didn’t actually. Agree 2y ago it looked very temporary wrt the works, but not sure now. Haven’t been down there since pandemic so I haven’t seen new signs.

Thanks for replying. It's still utter carnage in the name of "progress". I'm not keen on these so-called smart motorways with no hard shoulder anyway.
