Number Plate - Misrepresentation, or fake plate?

I went past a car today, which had the reg number JO51 ABC (can't remember the last 3 letters, but no matter here).

However, he hand't moved the letters about to make a different word, he had changed the 5 to a very clear S, so it read JOSI ABC.

It was legal lettering, and definately an S (one of the ABC letters was an S to compare).

So.. in the eyes of the law, has he done one of those misrepresentation types, or would it be classed simply as a fake plate as it doesn't have the correct letters and numbers?

Anyone know, just curious?

I guess the vehicle owner will find out fairly soon, no doubt it's flagged on the ANPR database and just waiting a visual recognition from officers.

It's an international recognition signal. It spells out "knobhead" in every known human language including all of the dead languages, and also in Dolphin, Whale, and Wildebeest.

Op should be prepared to be inundated by bodgers insisting that the DVLA are silently forcing people to bodge, despite all the contrary commentary and advice on their website.
