Minor collision advice
Discussion
I did a similar thing , offered a chap a decent sum to cover repair on his door on an old car that was actually probably worth less than the cost of a proper repair and everyone was happy.
you say your car is a bit scarred, but what about the other one? is there a chance that they take it for repair and discover that it is going to be hugely expensive? (eg cracked chrome effect plastic trim or similar)? Classic is you come to a reaonable arrangement and then the other party is convinced by a partner or know-all friend to cover themselves by insisting on insurance route.

You should always report the collision, even just for information purposes only. Then settle out of insurance if you desire.
regardless of whether a claim is made, it's a collision and may (unlikely as it is) affect op's premium. Under the terms of their policy I'm sure op should report it, but in the real world it sounds like a lot of faff for something that won't even breach the excess so why have the hassleMacneil said:
