MOT date

I have a 2017 motorhome which was built in the UK (i.e not imported) and first registered on the V5 as 01/03/17. It is treated the same as a car MOT-wise (i.e. first one due in 3 years and then annually)

I took it for its first MOT yesterday, early, as we will be away when I thought the MOT was due on 01/03/20. When I got to the testing station they informed me that the MOT was not due until 14/05/20...which I also checked this myself when I got home on the Gov MOT check date site and it appears to be correct

Can anyone explain this or has anyone come across this before?

I always thought the 'Date of First Registered' was in effect the vehicles birthday and therefore any subsequent MOT's would be due on that date!

Has it had a change of plate, i.e. private plate put on?

Did you buy the van last summer ?

If so, could the previous owner (or dealer) had it tested before you bought it ?

I contacted the dealer and yes, they MOT'd it in May...but didn't tell me and nor did they give me a copy of the MOT certificate!

As it was 10 months before it was due, when I bought it, I assumed it would have come with the 10 months left to run!
