Another DVLA Intra-departmental comms failure?

I traded in a car in mid November, all paperwork duly completed and sent to DVLA, about a week later I had notification that I was no longer the registered keeper of that car and a few days more a refund for unused VED arrived.

Roll forward another 2 weeks and I have a reminder to "tax" the car I sold, the devil in me says just leave it and see what happens, but then the responsible me says I should contact them and let them know they've made a mistake.

I don't think there could be any repercussions on me if I just file it under "wicker" or am I missing something?

If I undertand correctly, the VED reminders are actually printed & stuck in an envelope several weeks in advance.
So chances are the VED reminder was already 'in progress' before they received your change of ownership documents.

Call them and ask. You've got documentation to say you're not the registered keeper any more so why play devils advocate?

They are printed 4-8 weeks ahead so would have long since been ready for dispatch prior to your sale. As long as you have notification from DVLA you have sold the car that is all you need.

This seems to me to be another argument for allowing daily VED start dates rather than monthly. Presumably they have a massive print run of stuff that is all needed on the last day of the month. If it was spread out then the workload could be more evenly spread.

The rumour is - that behind the nice new digital front end, there is the same monthly records system chugging away. Its just a pretty dress on the same mannequin.

Doesn't the letter include a note telling you to ignore it if you have recently taxed or disposed of the vehicle?
