Someone I know (not me guv, honest) received a NIP but was then offered a speed awareness course. It was stated in the offer of the course that attendance at the course would then 'cancel' the NIP. This implies that the insurance company does not need to be informed because there would be no points on the licence. Is it correct that the insurance company does not need to be informed, and that attendance at a speed awareness course does not constitute a 'conviction' when subsequently completing an insurance proposal form?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I thought that's the whole point. Course = no points = no insurance involvement...

julianc - as far as am aware from people we know attended the Lancs course - case ist closed on completion of course und no need to tell insurers anything.

But ist wise to read small print as course ist non-refundable und the reps at my firm who got invited to this had to book a holiday date for it - und one had to negotiate his day off here as was not convenient. It seems if you choose to go on it und something crops up und you cannot attend on date required - ist no negotiation - und Fixed Penalty offer ist timed out und ist bigger walloping on court cost then.

But the reps thought the course was quite good overall - they actually enjoyed a drive in the countryside

I've been on the Staffordshire course - it was quite good and at the end of it someone asked that question. The answer was - "This never happened, you were never here" i.e. nobody needs to know.

With regards to the comments about not making the day, on my course you could request a different date initially if the one they suggest is not good for you, and you can also change it later for an admin fee of fifteen squid or so. But not if you only ask at the last minute according to the bumph.
