Anyone else seen this on the news today? Caught using helmet cam footage from a cyclist.

A police officer from that force on twitter said they send footage off to experts to calculate the speed, apparently it was a 40 page report.

Does anyone know exactly how they calculate it? Presumably it’s a very clever piece of computer software?

Amazed it was 40 pages mind you! Surely just go to where it is, measure two points that can be seen in the video and time how long it takes?

But if the cyclist was cycling really fast backwards and then replayed the tape in reverse to re-record it forwards, would that have distorted the dS/dT?
(Try it you can get the car undertaking the cyclist in reverse on a couple of the free image / video editors!!!).
Though I presume somewhere there was secondary collaboration such as house CCTV, we got asked for ours a few months ago when a vehicle over the limit for a nearby bridge was alleged to have gone down our road. (Had to fess to coppers ours was just a cheap camera and light box thus no evidence). Five months later - the neighbour showed us their video from a CCTV we'd never even noticed thy had of the Debbie SlowFart lorry reversing which would have exonerated it as obvs he didn't go over the bridge! (Presume Tacho did anyway).

What an absolute c*ck-end.
Empty country lane, good visibility, good road conditions, by all means have a "spirited" drive, but built up areas, cyclists or pedestrians around, just reckless and selfish.
Although, in general this news just shows that as the smart city revolution takes hold, and more and more devices have sensors and cameras, it won't be long before spirited drives might be a thing of the past.
Someone mentioned to me recently that eventually they want to have little cameras in all the cats eyes, so you'd be constantly surveilled on all roads.

Standards are slipping on PH - 20 replies and nobody's said it's OK because he's just a fellow motoring enthusiast having a spirited drive like we all do, how nobody got hurt so that makes it OK too, how the footage could have been doctored so he shouldn't have been found guilty and there's been no mention of snitches getting stitches, East Germany or 1984. In short where are the usual nutters?
