There was a mention on the radio today that there is a move (not sure how big a one) to get veganism 'protected status' in law (similar to religion). I am curious from a legal aspect is this practical or even desirable?

Veganism specifically as a moral standpoint or all those who follow a plant based diet?

There isn't any significant discrimination against vegans. Protected status will just be a stepping stone toward forcing their choices on everyone else.

Self doubt is a horrible feeling. And they've got it in spades.

They're idiots the lot of them. Forget food by nature, they want stuff concocted in labs, whilst constantly telling the rest of the world how bad they are.

That's a very idiotic generalisation, If someone wants to follow a vegan diet it doesn't make them an idiot.

What's the difference; Some ignorant bloke on the net or an ignorant activist calling one or the other 'idiots'....

As a specific thing? No? Should freedom of dietary choice be equally protected for all choices? Perhaps?

Difficult one for me. I prefer to have laws to protect that which a person can not help, such as the colour of their skin or a disability.

Protecting a Moral Viewpoint (regardless of whether I agree with it) is a bit more difficult and the question becomes where is the line drawn?
