hmmmm, wonder what caused that accident then... weaving in and out of traffic at ridiculous speeds with an untrained driver no doubt.
Gee, will have to thank them for giving more ammunition to the anti-speed campaign if that really is so.

Nah, a freak gust from the airvent caused the fluffy dice to be temporarily ingested by Wayne who promptly did the decent thing by stalling and allowing the local 999 guys (respect) to do a practice roof cut and trachaeotomy...

Go on Dibbs, what was the background?

(Always worried I'm gonna meet Dibbs on my regular Thursday night jaunt to Preston, mind you not sure my present chariot can exceed 70 without bits falling off - although it might manage 1.2 leptons on the M58 when I want to get home at 03:00... err... allegedly.....)

Was anybody badly hurt? Its always depressing looking at pictures like that. Nobody likes to be reminded of their own mortality.

It's good to know so many people are on hand if things go wrong.

Good picture. I'm sure the motion blur is accidental but it really adds to the picture.

What was the nature of the accident. I cannot see the damage so I assume it is off camera?

OK, it was mean of me to post the picture with no info. Sorry.

The circumstances are that the car (which started life as a standard VW Golf) was driven round a right hand bend too quickly. The driver lost control, and overcorrected by yanking the steering wheel to the right, causing the car to start to slide/spin to the left (clockwise when viewed from above).

The rar neraside wheel hit the nearside kerb, followed by the rear offside. The vehicle came to rest against the lamppost, seriously injuring the front passenger.

The other occupants sustained minor injuries. All are now (as far as I am aware) fully recovered.

This is actually one occasion when the collision was cauised by the driver going too fast for the road.

Might be an idea for the local authority to replace the lamp post with a deformable one, although the driver should perhaps slow down a bit.

Muppets like this do the rest of the motoring population favours at all unfortunately. Would an accident like this be likely to result in a prosecution for driving without due care?

can I just remind everyone that one collision is in no way atypical of the driving standards of everyone with a modified car, before people jump to too many conclusions.

this accident could have had the same outcome had the driver not have modified the car, it's just apparent that in this particular incident the car was modified from standard.

None of the modifications to the car contributed to the collision. The vehicle itself was in good order.

The simple fact is that the driver was driving beyond his capabilities, and travelling too quickly for that particular stretch of road. Having driven that road (30mph limit) myself countless times, up to 60mph plus, it's quite possible to go round the bend at a reasonably quick pace.

The driver of the golf was doing considerably less than 60 when he lost control. He was subsequently prosecuted for driving without due care and attention, although I don't recall whether or not he was convicted, or any penalty imposed.

Same sort of accident kills people on the Stanningley By-pass in Leeds. Long sweeping corner dual carriageway NSL limit. Easily three figures is achieveable in good conditions, but every now and again somebody gets caught out and loses it. Same sort of accident happens on the ring road at Adel. Seems to be a gradient thing. Both have them.
