Strange one this. In Glossop, just east of Manchester, there are 2-3 Truvelo cameras on the main road.

Fair enough, its a very busy road (needs a bypass urgently), and quite narrow, so I can understand why they may wish to put cameras there (even though I don't necessarily agree with them).

The thing is, in addition to the white painted line before the Truvelo, they have also painted GATSO lines after the camera.

The cynical part of me suggests that they hope to grab people still speeding in the belief that they only need to slow for the white lines, and not the Truvelo line.

I have never seen GATSOs in Glossop in all the years of driving through it.

Odd, eh?

I have noticed an increase in Gatso lines on roads without scameras. On the new bit of the M42, they've painted lines under every gantry on the section where the variable limit will be but looking at the plans, not all the gantries will eventually have cameras. Must be a cheap way of getting people to slow down!

The corrugated surface on the A42 & bits of the M42 does that to me!

There is a software upgrade for the Truvelos.

They can now take a piccie of the vehicle moving away from the camera, in a similar manner to a Gatso.
Only a single flash instead of 2 but still 60 credits and 3 points to add to their collection box...

Have they altered their type approval then? They may be capable, but they need to be approved too.

Gatso lines are usually used to fool numpties into slowing down on the cheap.

Derbyshire do that at all the Truvelo sites and there are embedded sensors each side as well.

In theory they can turn them round and shoot from behind but the three (in 200 meters) near me have never been turned afaik in the 2 years since they were installed.

Min you not much point 'cos the traffic always seems to be at 25 or less or stationary. That said a couple of the housings have been burned out in the past and needed replacement. Not the only ones to be attacked in that area either.

One of the three is also at the piont of a right turn with a right filter lane squeezed onto a 2 lane road. The gatso marks and the lane marking and turn arrows mean the road surface is almost entirely white paint.

The truvelos in Buxton near the train station were originally forward facing but have recently been turned around to make use of the calibration lines painted on the road behind them. I don't know why this is so, it may be due to the number of motorbikes setting them off...
