Spanish speeding fine

I've just received a notice for speeding on Spain from way back in August last year when I was driving a hire car to the airport .
I know here in the UK if you don't receive notice within 2 weeks of the offence you can't be done. So how about Spain, what are the regulations when you're abroad. Do they differ to the UK and if they do can they still do you.
I've not received any information from the hire company about this.
Where do I stand??

no idea on spanish regulations but they surely will have contacted the hire car company who will have put you down as the driver.

They will probably have taken an admin fee off your credit card for processing your name on the paperwork, if you fail to pay and the spanish court go after them for it then they will probably take that fine off you too.

Surely the hire company should be contacting me concerning me regarding this. I'll have to check Spanish law as the time taken for this is ridiculous.

They have 365 days to send fines out to non nationals.
Italy are notoriously slow at sending them.

I presume when they get the speeding ticket through, they just cross reference it to the driver who had the car at the time and fill in those details The spanish authorities then chase you as the hirer at the time.

I cant imagine a hire company in this country would do anything differently.

If it was your own car i would say ignore it but i think if you ignore it they might try to charge the hire company who will pass that on to you along with another admin fee on top.
