Importing a car here from the EU

Hi folks hoping someone could clear something up for me.

I have a small Fiat in Poland, I've owned it nearly 10 years (registered in my Polish wife's name).
I am being treated for lukeamia so doubtful if I'll travel there again and would like to bring it here before Brexit proper applies hoops to this. I know if she drove it off the ferry as her personal car the import is easy ...But...
The way I will have to do it, is palletise the car and have it forklifted on and off a flatbed.

Will this mean I need to pay import taxes or am I going to have a headache somewhere? Please bear in mind I'll not be able to be at the dock or help this truck driver out in any way if he encounters problems en route. He will have a copy of the ownership/insurance/MOT paperwork to show, but this will have my wife's name on it not his.

Unless it has some special personal attachment it seems like a lot of trouble and cost , surely more than the value of the car. Can’t you sell it and buy an equivalent model here ?

There are no import duties or fees to pay when importing from the EU.

Car can be brought in by any means, as long as the paperwork is in order, it is straightforward.

Only expense will be first registration.

Where in Poland is the car, and where in the UK are you?

It's mint 126p so worth around £3k here, and it does have a lot of sentimental attachment, as soon as I saw one I wanted it. Mine was a 30th birthday present many years ago and I've been to quite a few places in Poland with it before we had kids. Now that I'm pretty under the weather I've had to think about what I can leave my kids so they have an idea of what I was like and this sums me up quite well.

Thanks Sim that's exactly what I needed to know. The car is in Kielce and I'm in Northern Ireland, the flatbed will take it to Morcambe and I can get it easily from there to NI.

One of those will fit in a decent sized van. Might be worth looking into as that could save a fair bit of time and money.
