I'm well aware of the sold as seen. This is what I would usually quote.

I'm a private seller, transferred to him as a claimed trader but I'm not sure of the validity of that now.

That's a big error you've made unfortunately.

In this case (as many rules/law dont seem to fully apply to that lot) I think I'd give the money back in this case.

You may well find you get a visit, or stuff dissapears/get damaged during the night.

I'm aware of this and will take it back. My worry is what he could have been up to in it during the past 2 days and whether I will be able to scrap it because I have transferred it to his 'business'

If he’s had it for two days I bet the parts he wanted off it have mysteriously been exchanged for the broken parts on his car. You now have your car back minus the working parts he wanted.

If he is indeed from the travelling community and it’s a few hundred quid I would just take it back and scrap it.

If it was genuinely fked and he was a 3.14key then he’d not have rang you, he’d just have come back to your house. They do not reason, they just act.

I doubt you can scrap it without the V5C in your name - maybe if he brings the supplement back and adds a covered, signed letter to it stating he has returned the vehicle (and you can add the actual time to that) then you can re-apply for the V5C as I don't think a new one is processed anyhow until he sends his slip in?

Or call the DVLA and put the above to them, see what they say you need to do.

It’s not yours .. it’s not registered to you

If you get it back don’t sign anything and leave it somewhere.. the council or DVLA will take it away and scrap it

That's a really tough call.

Anybody else it would be "I'm really sorry mate, it was sold as seen, described accurately, you inspected and were happy and it drove off OK, afraid it's your problem".

But if he is a member of the community you suggest that changes everything in my opinion (if it's only a few hundred quid). I would guess it's exactly as you suggest and expensive parts removed (although why anybody would bother I don't know for the sake of a few hundred quid). But you need to have proof of ownership to scrap. Maybe ring your local scrappy and ask what they would accept? new keeper supplement with a covering letter? Do you have any mates you can get over?

My local scrapyard will accept stuff as long as you have ID and fill out their paperwork.
