Tomorrow at 6pm I have my first shift at work for a while and since the world went mad.

I have to drive there and back. And I've been told you need to carry proof that you need to be driving to work etc.

Now the company I'm driving for say my hgv PC, tacho and texts confirming start time will be more than enough. But my partner has a special letter for her healthcare job.

So would I risk being fined if I dont have this special letter?

Cheers

Edit for the trogladites who will go through my previous posts and point out I recently came home. My work have said its fine. We are having no contact. All paperwork is being placed in the trailer and we are having no contact with anything. So I am self isolating driving a lorry.

For goodness just go to work. You're not going to get done over, arrested or dragged to the cells. The police may like to scare people but in reality that's about all they can do. Especially if you're going to work. Who are the police anyway? You never see them.

I think Milky has had his fill of involvement with the Police recently, he just wanted to be pre-armed, in case.

Is there any reason why you’re so anxious about not having the appropriate receipts? laugh

If you do get pulled over, don’t try and get in a hoohaa with them wink

Police have been stopping vehicles in Wolverhampton, North Yorkshire and probably elsewhere to check if their journeys are 'necessary.' I'm surprised they've the resources but it maybe those obviously hooning about, or driving miles to beauty spots.,

Minimum proof you're going to work would suffice I'd have thought.

Not a cop, but I'm pretty sure there are no covid-19 related regulations saying anyone has to carry proof of anything.

^ What he said.

It's not a police state despite what they (some) pretend.

I should imagine a till receipt will suffice.

Remember Milky, you're only allowed outside for exercise for 1 hour a day. Make sure Mrs Milky is aware of that.

A bit like getting in the Exercise Yard in Prison.

I think the policeman in this article needs to answer a question or two. (Giving a shop owner a ticket for criminal damage for drawing 2 meter marks outside her shop with washable chalk)

Yes it's the daily mail but it seems hard to put any other spin on it other than the copper being a total and utter jobsworth. Maybe he was upset he didn't get to play with the force's toy drone.

It would appear the police are getting back in their box a bit and have acknowledged that maybe they should have actually read the guidance before setting up roadblocks and demanding people to show them their papers:

Dont sweat it OP. If asked just tell them where you're going and you'll be all good. Some workers have letters, some dont. There is no requirement to provide a letter. Very simple enquiries can bottom it out.

Derbyshire said they wouldn't use the drone again. Bet that backfired on them. Softly softly would have been the best way forward.

Don’t worry about it op (well, as current regulations stand...)

I’ve been driving to work everyday and whilst there is a noticeable rise in police presence in my neck of the woods, they haven’t batted an eyelid and simply saying you’re going to work is a perfectly valid reason for being on the road should they pull you over (highly unlikely at the mo).

Cheers everyone.

I have no problem with the police doing their job. And support them if they have to stop folk playing silly.

Just wanted to check.

You'll be fine. Tell them where you're going. If they're that bothered I'm sure they'd ask who you work for and could contact them to confirm you're coming in for a shift and you can't work from home.

You don't at this point need a bit of paper saying where you're going. I think bits of paper with information that can prove your story are overrated. biggrin

Yes, as does DQC card that he should also have with him.

If you've got a valid reason then you'll be fine.

Only point I would make, however, is driving a truck is not self isolating - if you get pulled over or have an accident or similar then you'll be in contact with people. If there's a reason for you to self isolate then that should be at home. As much as you may say you won't be in contact with anybody, something could happen beyond your control - I'm aware if an accident near me a few days ago, driver was meant to be at home isolating but went out and crashed, ambulance and police in attendance (and therefore in contact with her) and she had to be taken to hospital due to injury and put in immediate quarantine. All those people are now at risk of infection.

Thick police misunderstanding basic English, why is anyone surprised?
