Just got a parking ticket for parking on a stretch of pavement separating a service road from the main road. The car was completely on the pavement which is much wider than the car so not blocking anyone. The parking places in the service road were all occupied and it is quite common for people to park up on this bit of pavement which incidentally has several huge plant pots along it's length. What is the offence? The parking ticket says "parked in a restricted street during prescribed hours" which is blatantly not true - the sign limits parking to 1 hour with return prohibited within x hours (can't remember what x was) and I was there for 5 minutes.

did the part you park on have double yellows on? If you park on grass/pavement/ect the yellow lines apply here too and "extend" up to where youve parked..

"Restricted area" - permits? business/residential? did you park in a loading only bit?

The ticket should have an offense code on it should it not?

The service road had single yellow with a limit of 1 hour but the main road has a double yellow. I was parked closer to the service road than to the main road. If I had wheels on the service road would that have made a difference? Perhaps they are applying the double yellows from the main road.

You can always challeng it when the send the 'Notice to owner'.
In the mean time are the yellow lines where you were parked terminated at both ends? Are there any breaks in the lines?
Offence code 01 means that the PA should have a record in his note book about the time he saw your car parked there and when he issued the ticket. Have you got pics of the lines and the area you where parked in?
There is also some legal stuff on parking here www.map.gbol.org This tells you about what signs and lines have to be in place for a ticket to be issued.
