Hi Everyone

I was banned from driving last year. I recently applied by post to get my licence replaced but covid-19 has meant i have not received anything back from the dvla. I cannot contact them by any means either. I even started an insurance policy but as yet i cannot drive.

If i check my licence status online, not the actual application, it states a long licence number and states my ban ends on 16th April. Does anyone know if this means my application was successful or not.

Check back on the 16th and see if it's updated.

Re-read the DVLA site. I know that whilst applying after a medical suspension of licence, if you meet the medical and other criteria, and a GP/Consultant agrees you can drive, then you can drive while the application is in progress. There may be a similar concession with your licence. As said, wait until April16th.

Thanks for your reply. Its interesting to know you were able to drive whilst you waited on your application, there may well be something similar for my circumstances but at the moment you can get to talk to anyone so its all a bit unknown. Ill check back on Thursday and fingers crossed it has been updated to a fully valid licence.

i read a week ago they were sending postal applications back so that why im a bit unsure if mine will be processed or not.

OP. The legal allowance to drive when re-applying on medical grounds is contained within the Road Traffic Act 1988 section 88. Check if there is also an allowance in your case.

You need to check what the ban was for, if it was a DR10 or DR30 then the High Risk Offender scheme (HRO) may apply. There is no s88 cover for that situation.
Otherwise I believe unless you need to redo the test you should be able to restart.
As mentioned above check on the date

Many thanks for your reply. I had a look at the link and in section 88 but i find it impossible to understand the legal jargon.

Many thanks for your reply. It sounds like there is no section 88 going by what you have said. I do not need to do another test thankfully. After reading they are sending application back i have no idea if mine has been accepted or not.

I might be totally wrong on this, but, it looks like you were banned from driving, not having your licence revoked? This being the case why would you need to re-apply for your licence? Surely your licence is still valid and you can start to use it again from 20th April following the end of your suspension from driving.

Its made clear when your banned that you need to reapply. Some people are required to take another test but i was not.

Hey guys i just check my licence again and im afraid it has not changed. So i cannot tell if that means i can drive yet or not, the fact i have a licence number there, maybe the police are the only people who can tell me either way. Does anyone have any further suggestions?

If your banned for over 56 days (I believe) you have to reapply for your licence. It's not taking your test again but filling out a form and sending some money to the DVLA.

Yeah thats exactly what i did, you cant apply online so it cant be tracked. The only option was to post it.

Thanks for the comment,
If the HRO scheme applies remember that DVLA is now down to skeleton staff and really priotising LGV & emergency services.

Aditionally the scheme would need a Dr's appointment, these aren't happening at the moment

Correct. Licence revoked if ban +56 days. Pay fee and receive new licence. Apply online if possible.

Update, i called the post office helpline and my postal order has net been cashed yet so this proves my application has not been processed. The gov website says dvla are not processing applications sent in by post like mine. So all i can do is wait until there comes a time when they are up and running as normal which could be a long long time.
