Issue following accident 13 months on
Discussion
Has a whiff of 'scam' about it. People get access to data about people who've had accidents and or / claims and try it on. You need to authenticate it, I very much doubt insurance companies would be chasing this sort of thing up at the moment.
It's one step up from the cold calls you get about 'being in an accident.'

Was it a credit hire agreement for the car?
I had something similar a few years ago, the bill was being queried as it was thousands for a "like for like" replacement offered. At the time I was a little clueless as the the potential issue with credit hire, if the third party does not pay.
Luckly we managed to sort without having to pay out.
Good luck, I guess you could ask for evidence of the offer of their hire car etc. But, also what are your insurance company saying about the debt?

It wouldn’t been a different “division” of your insurance company, it would have been a claims management firm that gave your insurance company a nice kick back to get your business.
If the other side refuse to pay the hire bill, the hire company will have to issue Court proceedings in your name to seek to recover the cost of hire. You will have to provide as much assistance to them throughout this process which could ultimately result in you having to go to Court to justify the need for a hire vehicle.

The hire company will have been paid initially by the OP's own insurer. This isn't credit hire I suspect. It's his insurers who are out of pocket, not the hire company. KungFuPanda said:

The whole practice is an utter farce. For you average ph'er, it's not a problem as we usually know how to swerve this. But for the average punter, it's easy to get conned into accepting the offer of 'help' after being involved in a collision. If the other side refuse to pay the hire bill, the hire company will have to issue Court proceedings in your name to seek to recover the cost of hire. As the saying goes, 'only a mousetrap gives you free cheese'.
Total con-artists.

I had a non fault accident 13 months ago. All settled as far as I knew.
I received a phone call today from the division of my insurance company that provided my hire car. They are claiming the at fault parties insurance are refusing to pay for the hire as they offered me a hire vehicle.

As your insurers for a copy of the paperwork they received from the at fault party insurers where they offered to hire a vehicle for you.I received a phone call today from the division of my insurance company that provided my hire car.
