Coronavirus travel Q

Apologies if there is already a thread running, you'll understand:

The OH's mother is about to die from cancer.
Can the OH travel from Cambridge to Cornwall to see her?

She obviously desperately wants to see her one last time but doesn't want to get turned away mid-journey.

She would be travelling by train, although I could probably borrow a car if needed and drive her.

She doesn't have long to make this decision.

Might be an idea to phone her GP and get him / her to email you a letter stating - shes on end of life care with a very poor prognosis and needs family to provide end of life support in current climate?

May help if they do get stopped by an over-zealous officer.

I wouldnt even worry about that. Live in care for immediate relative.

Reg 6(2)(d) - "to provide care or assistance ... to a vulnerable person."

If stopped and if true then OH should say - "my mother is dying of cancer and I'm travelling so I can care for her in her final days" rather than "I just want to say goodbye."

Thanks chaps, It's what I told her but she is a natural born worrier and I knew PH would provide reassurance promptly.

Unfortunately we got the phone call on the way to the station.

bugger was just about to echo what everyone else on here has said - get going for your goodbyes, but 'the call' sounds like what I sincely hope it isn't.

I drove 1100 miles last week throughout England and Wales, all for work so permitted.

I saw quite a few police cars, but very few seemed to be stopping anyone, especially on the motorway network. My motorhome was ignored.
