I always thought the smart motorway cameras were off when there wasn't a speed limit being shown - unfortunately not as Surrey police chopped me last week.
95mph on a quiet motorway and no chance of a speed awareness course due to the virus.
Heads up for anyone else that thinks they're safe when no limit is being enforced!

Is there a side effect of Covid19 that cancels speed limits?
Clearly the low traffic and good weather induced you to do 95 as you felt it was safe to do so. That logic means all limits could be ignored if the driver felt it was safe to do so.
There are many roads where the speed limit can be considered too low, there are some in my area with a 40 limit but suitable for 50 or even NSL.
The basic fact is that a speed limit has been set by whatever reasoning so you take a chance if you exceed it by enough to trigger a camera.
Clearly the low traffic and good weather induced you to do 95 as you felt it was safe to do so. That logic means all limits could be ignored if the driver felt it was safe to do so.

The outside World is full of COVID 19 virus right now - Hence why we are all being told to stay inside our homes as much as possible.Because of the virus, you don't want to spend any more time than you really have to outside your home, so it's important to drive as fast as you can: The faster you drive - The less time outside with the virus!
That's just simple logic!

Agreed, like so many other threads about speeding, this one appears to fall into "it's not fair" camp. The bottom line is if you choose to speed then take the consequences. ((and yes I have been caught speeding, but would never dream of coming on here, moaning about it) nor does this mean I should be on Mumsnet, just because I don't agree that speeding is always OK)
