Cancelling a DD on a finance agreement
Discussion
I very regrettably purchased an item using the company's own interest free finance however i am unable to get in contact with this company to return this item and thus cancel the finance agreement.
I have been trying to get in contact since the day of delivery and the item is unopened.
The company from whom i purchased the item have gone ahead and set up a DD for me to pay down the finance agreement however since i am very intent on returning the item i was wondering where i stand on stopping any money being taken out of may account and cancelling the DD. As i said, i have been attempting to return the item and this has been going on since 6th May.
Any idea on where i can go next?

You can cancel any direct debit easily enough. I can cancel mine on my own banking app. Doesn’t really stop the ramifications of not keeping up with a credit agreement though.
Dependent on what the thing is or who the seller is, the finance agreement and the sale of the item are usually two separate transactions.
You apply for the finance, the finance company pay the seller and the seller gives you the goods.
You’re going to have to cancel both the finance agreement and the sales contract.

Banks do not give legal advice. You can just cancel the DD anyway, but that will not by itself cancel the agreement.
OP, you may be able to return the Sex Robot under the usual consumer blah.
Does the seller not have an email address?
The seller is a multi site retailer that has turned off its customer services email address and, from checking out any of responses to their promotional Facebook postings, they have multiple disgruntled customers with similar problems. This is not where I got the nipple tassels from.
I know I can’t cancel the direct debit without formally cancelling the agreement but if the seller is refusing to acknowledge my request to return the unopened off the shelf item, then where do I stand legally?
Just out of interest why set up and enter an agreement for something you want to send back unopened, you obviously wanted or needed said item when entering agreement. Do you have a valid reason for returning the item? (Murdered partner in lockdown and no longer need nipple tassels or realising you need bigger ones).
Just a word of caution but the seller and the finance company are unlikely to be the same. Similar names maybe, and members of the same group probably, but unlikely to be the same company. So check your agreements carefully. It is quite possible that the two in-house organisations don't actually talk to each other.
Never understood the whole cancelling direct debits thing. I know loads of people who wil say "yeah don't use that anymore just cancel it mate". Preventing the company from debiting your account does not absolve you from any contractual agreement you had with them, you should always go through the proper channels.
