Darlington, places to go.
Discussion
Ok people, hiya :wavey:
My lady and I are going to Darlington for a short timen to visit friends, and will have to kill a few days by ourselves in the middle of the stay .. now thing is ..
have googled for interesting things to do around Darlington and am drawing a bit of a blank ..
we've done the east coast bit on previous visits, have done Beamish, Metro Centre in Newcastle, done Raby castle, where else is there that we can go ?
If it helps we're both musicians, like photography/film, outdoor activities (absailing/moutain biking/etc), but as you get up to the North East there doesn't seem much to do. Google is being less than brilliant, so hoping you people may be able to help.
Thankyou one and all :)

How about a trip on the North York Moors railway, from Pickering to Grosmont...beautiful scenery in "Heartbeat" country, maybe a visit to Goathland where it is filmed, (The ficticious Aidensfield)
Whitby is well worth a day out, walk up the 199 steps to the Abbey for superlative views.......
Robin Hood's bay..quaint fishing village.....
Scarborough....Castle
Fish and chips
Peasholm Park
A trip to Robert Thompson's "Mouseman" furniture factory in Kilburn, (don't forget to look out for the white horse on the hillside)
Beautiful OAK furniture hand made by skilled craftsmen......Great day out....{imo}

White water canoe/ raft centre at Stockton-on-Tees, about 10 miles from Darlo.
Lion Inn on Blakey ridge near Castleton on the NY Moors... find a route that involves going through Rosedale and you get to climb the Rosedale Chimney...
Do it on a pushbike if you're hard enough
Give us some notice and we can possibly get a crew of the NE PHers together to accompany you for a ride out... everything from Nobles to TVRs to Lotuses...

If your into music and the arts, there is a new centre in Darlo called The Forum, I ain't been yet but apparently it's better than Darlington Arts Centre who have a good reputation for their music and film scene. Usually jazz gigs are on a Friday, blues on a Thursday or Saturday and recent films on a Monday afternoon and evening. Ticket prices are cheap for the films but vary for the gigs depending upon who the promotor is; ie. if it's a regular jazz gig (biggish name) your looking at £8-9. If it's part of a CMN tour then they usually double.
The latter venue does real ale too.
The Forum is supposed to be nice for a coffee.
The rest of Darlo is a mixed bag really; good beer and scoth seslection downstairs in House of Fraser, good Thai massage at some address on Victoria Road. Apparently.
