Today I learned red light cameras double up as speed traps.

Never been done for speeding in my life.

Liverpool A59, traffic light camera got me a 49 in a 40.

Just what I need when my job is in the balance and im stressed to the point of depression.

Theres not even any lines on the road so i've no idea how they get you.

I dont know whether to just take the sodding points than sit in a classroom for 3 hours, which might or might not happen due to covid.

Hopefully you can get a technical solution to participate in the SAC remotely.

It serves as a useful reminder that some junction cameras have that speed camera functionality.

They can do, as opposed to they do do. I will explain because this sounds like a scouse joke. There are cameras available which can perform both functions, but not all cameras do. As a general rule of thumb if it looks likes a traditional red light camera then that is what it is. If it is smaller and more modern in appearance then it will probably be a digital camera approved for both functions.

When you 'know' it will be easy to identify each type.

Ironically, my SAC was delivered via "Zoom". none Smart mobile as I don't get mobile reception at home.

Home PC (Avast) threw up issues with Zoom security certificates, however, my 10 year old "Smart TV" delivered the course via Firefox app via Amazon Firestick.

Who'd have thought it, your own TV broadcasting messages to the proles to make them behave!

(PS anyone played the replacement game, where you replace in any government briefing the word "CV-19" with "General Population", suddenly the gubberments policys start to make sense. Oh, how I wish Maggie was back in charge, competent and you knew left from right).

Round our way they have sensors buried in the road, just after the white line.

You can spot the square of banding around them, though admittedly not at 49mph.

There some cameras now that can double up for both red light, anpr and speed but I'd say the majority of the more 'normal' red light cameras we see are for that purpose alone. Have a google and you'll find the company that makes a very slim unit that'll fit just about anywhere, and they're very difficult to spot. The inner roads of Heathrow are now teeming with them.

That does have the "dragon's teeth". I always assumed that those cameras were speed cameras and slowed down.

I think you mean +2. Therefore in theory safe at 34, at risk at 35 and above.

I know a couple of people who have been caught on Merseyside by these cameras , it was widely reported on the local news and local press that the traffic light cameras in certain places would double as speed cameras before they became active .

I cant help but feel from this post that if things are so bad and you are desperate to keep a job that's in the balance then you shouldn't be speeding

It would make the rest of it irrelevant.
