Well, for the first time in 18 years of 20K+ miles per annum motoring, I suffered my first accident damage on public roads yesterday.

I'd borrowed a colleague's company car while mine was in for service and because I didn't have a valid fuel card for it and am too tight to pay for petrol myself, I was nursing it back up the M42 with a nearly empty tank.

From Gloucester to past Birmingham I'd been slipstreaming the same artic at a steady 50mph.

Suddenly another artic in the middle lane indicated and in the same instant swung across to move over, whilst I was about level with the back of the passenger door on his tractor unit.

He clipped my wing mirror and smashed the glass, and only violent evasive action swerving onto the hard shoulder prevented a written-off car.

'Sorry mate, you were in my blind spot', says he, when I pulled him over to exchange details 'I'd seen you earlier, but I thought that you were only behind that lorry 'cos you were pulling off - I thought you'd peeled off at the last junction'.

So there you go. Undeniably another speed related accident.

Remind me never to drive so slowly again in future!

Ok , never drive so slowly again in the future!
(reminder no1)

Hardluck though!

Good job there wasn't a serious accident causing a pile up, the scamera partnership would surely be on the nearest bridge for the next two years!

Why didn't you just take your colleague's fuel card - they generally have the car reg no on them, but even if signed garages never check the sig?

So, the hard shoulder comes to the rescue then.

I take it you will never feel the need to support the concept of using the HS as an extra lane when congestion is a problem? I thought not. Good man.

Piss poor excuse from a professional driver though and yes, I do understand how difficult it is to see out of commercial vehicles BUT that hardly excuses the driving as described. IMHO.
