NIP for 76 in a 60 - what happens next?

Last week I was caught by a mobile camera van doing 76 in a climbing lane on a single carriageway road (60 limit). NIP came yesterday and I'm sending it back today to say I was driving.

I did it, and it was utterly stupid, and I'm absolutely freaking out. 20 years driving, completely clean license. I know it's too fast for a speed awareness course. Is there any chance of a fixed penalty? Tables online say fixed penalty up to 68 and prosecution above 86, so what happens in between?

Will I get summoned to court? Will I need a solicitor? Found one local one online and even for speeding where you've plead guilty they charge £480, plus there'd be the resultant fine on top. I earn £19k so my take-home is around £1250 per month.

Will I get charged with careless or dangerous driving? The weather was dry and bright. The climbing lane in front of me was completely empty (I wasn't tail-gating or anything!), but the inside lane and the third lane coming the other way had a steady stream of traffic as it's the Lake District in summer holidays. I'm terrified they'll take it further because there was other traffic around.

Like I said, I know how utterly stupid it was. I let work stress get to me and I was rushing home (not an excuse at all - just what happened). I barely slept last night as I have quite bad anxiety and this has sent it spiralling.

For 76mph in a 60mph limit this will just be the standard £100 fine and three points.

Nothing to worry about.

calm down, you didn't murder a nun, its just a small speeding offence.

Wait and see what comes back, it's just a run of the mill speeding ticket.

Which tables are they? 68mph is where action starts and you’re (unfortunately) only 1 mph above a speed awareness course. So, as others have said, you’ll get a fixed penalty.

Thank you!! You’ve all put my mind at rest. Lesson absolutely thoroughly learnt - due to work I’ve been driving far more the last 18 months (20k miles a year) and I’d got complacent. I never normally drive up that lane that fast but let myself have a stupid moment.

Since it happened I feel like I’m a much worse driver though as I’ve been spending more time checking my speedo than watching the road! :/

p.s. I’d misunderstood the table that’s on the AA site and others - I thought it was FPN up to 68 (I.e. 60 to 68). So it’s FPN when a course isn’t an option from 68 to 85 and court at 86+.
